During special operations on the Belarusian-Russian border, Vitebsk customs officers stopped two attempts to import drugs into Belarus. In both episodes, the presence of illegal substances in the citizens was indicated by a service dog.

In the first case, hashish was transported by a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, who was traveling as a passenger in a Skoda passenger car. 12.47 grams of the drug were hidden in a cigarette pack that was on the floor behind the front seat of the car.

In the second case, a Belarusian who was driving an Opel Vectra car also tried to import 2.3 grams of hashish. He hid the package with the drug in the trunk.

The identity of the discovered substances to hashish was also confirmed by the examinations carried out by the specialists of the GKSE in the Vitebsk region.

Vitebsk Customs has initiated criminal proceedings against citizens under Part 1 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of up to seven years in prison.
