The Great Patriotic War left many scars on our land. The unhealed wound is the Trostenets concentration camp, the largest place of mass extermination of people in Belarus during the Nazi occupation and the fourth in Europe after Auschwitz, Majdanek and Treblinki.
On the eve of Victory Day, customs officers from the Minsk region, students and schoolchildren arrived at the memorial to the victims of the camp, along with Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee Eduard Danilovich.
Flowers were laid at the foot of the monument, and a metronome counted down a minute of silence.
"We will never forget the enormous, irreparable human sacrifices that the war against fascism brought. And what the Belarusian land preserves should never happen again. We, the heirs of the winners, are obliged to preserve the peace that was given to us, to work honestly and responsibly for the benefit of strengthening our native Belarus," Eduard Danilovich addressed the audience.
